Chennedy Carter became a household name in the WNBA for all of the wrong reasons. The former No. 4 overall pick was at the center of controversy when she clobbered Caitlin Clark with a dirty cheap shot at the beginning of the regular season.
It does not appear as though the 26-year-old will be invited back to the W. The incident, and her subsequent reaction, tarnished her reputation.
Carter played the 2024 WNBA season with the Chicago Sky. She averaged 17.5 points on 45% shooting in 26 minutes per game. It’s not like her role was insignificant. It’s not like she was not producing!
If last year’s stats were not impressive enough, Carter was recently named as the Player of the Year in the Chinese Basketball Association. The 5-foot-9 point guard averaged 32 points per game and finished as the league leader in steals. Opposing defenses did not have an answer
And yet, she did not sign with a WNBA organization for this upcoming year.
Chennedy Carter recently signed a contract with Adelitas de Chihuahua of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional. It is the top league in Mexico. That will effectively remove her from roster consideration for the WNBA. All 13 teams chose to pass.

Even though Carter proved to be an effective offensive player in the WNBA last year, it is her attitude that presumably served as the catalyst for getting blackballed. The Atlanta Dream suspended her for “conduct detrimental to the team” after she nearly came to blows with a teammate in 2021.
Of course, there was the Caitlin Clark incident of 2024. Chennedy Carter clobbered the Rookie of the Year with a nasty cheap shot and later doubled down by calling out her boyfriend. She stayed dirty in August when she committed an ugly flagrant foul on her former teammate.
WNBA would obviously prefer not to deal with the headache. They can find scoring elsewhere.
