Celtics Pull Off One of the Greatest Comebacks in NBA Playoff History—Down But Never Out, Boston Stuns Rivals With Last-Second Heroics to Force a Do-or-Die Game 7, Igniting a Frenzied Crowd and Sending Shockwaves Through the League as Title Dreams Stay Alive in Epic Fashion

Celtics Stun Heat in Game 6 Thriller, Eye Historic Comeback in Game 7

MIAMI — In one of the most dramatic finishes in NBA playoff history, the Boston Celtics pulled off a miraculous 104–103 win over the Miami Heat in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals, thanks to Derrick White’s buzzer-beating tip-in. With just 0.1 seconds left on the clock, White crashed the boards and caught the rebound off Marcus Smart’s missed three, tipping it in just before the horn sounded — stunning the Miami crowd and snatching away what looked like a sure victory for the Heat.

This moment capped off a chaotic final stretch, where the Celtics had blown a 10-point lead with under five minutes left, only for Jimmy Butler’s clutch free throws to give the Heat a one-point edge with three seconds remaining. But Boston made the most of those final seconds — and made history in the process.

The Celtics, once trailing 0-3 in the series, are now just the fourth team in NBA history to force a Game 7 after such a deficit — and have a chance to become the first team ever to complete the comeback when they return to TD Garden.

Jayson Tatum led Boston with 31 points and 12 rebounds, while Jaylen Brown added 26 points and 10 boards. But it was White, the quiet hero of the night, whose hustle play will be remembered forever.

“I’m still in disbelief,” Tatum said postgame. “That was insane. Just… wow.”

For Miami, it was heartbreak. Despite a strong performance from Caleb Martin and late-game heroics from Butler, the Heat couldn’t close it out. Butler took the blame for his 5-for-21 shooting night, vowing to bounce back in Game 7: “If I play better, we’re not even in this position.”

Now, the Heat must regroup and fight off what would be a historic collapse, while the Celtics return home with momentum and destiny on their side.

Game 7 awaits.

The Celtics tried to make history. Instead, it's just another bitter end.
