Kansas City has been known for its high-powered offense behind quarterback Patrick Mahomes. However, the unit has several holes this season. One of the most obvious is the rushing attack.
Through five games, Mahomes leads the Chiefs in rushing yards with 190. Kareem Hunt and Isaiah Pacheco, the top two running backs, have combined for 327 yards and three touchdowns on 82 carries.
To help kick-start the running back room, Pro Football & Sports Network’s Josh Weil predicts the Chiefs will trade the Houston Texans a 2026 sixth-round pick for four-time Pro Bowler Nick Chubb.
“I think having a healthy Nick Chubb in-house, where they don’t have to overuse him, would be a welcome addition, given his poise and experience,” Weil wrote. “It worked well when he played with Kareem Hunt in Cleveland in the past, too, and to lead with three solid backs is something they have shown they are willing to do.”
Through five games with the Texans, Chubb has rushed 58 times for 249 yards and two touchdowns, all of which lead the team. He has seven receptions for 46 yards.
A sixth-round pick would make this a low-risk trade. Chubb is also on a cheap deal, signing a one-year, $2.5 million contract this past offseason with the Texans.
If the Chiefs want to upgrade their running back room via a trade, they have about four weeks until the NFL’s trade deadline on Nov. 4 at 4 p.m. ET.
