Kansas City’s running back situation has been one of the biggest questions of the offseason.
With both Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco expected to hit free agency, the Chiefs have been searching for a true difference-maker to restore balance to an offense led by Patrick Mahomes.
Walker has quickly emerged as the most intriguing option on the market. The explosive running back is coming off a historic postseason run that ended with Super Bowl MVP honors, making him the first running back in nearly three decades to win the award.
During the 2025 regular season, Walker rushed for 1,027 yards and five touchdowns on 221 carries, averaging 4.6 yards per attempt.
But it was his playoff performance that truly elevated his value around the league.
Across three playoff games, Walker exploded for 313 rushing yards and four touchdowns, including a dominant 135-yard performance in the Super Bowl, cementing his reputation as one of the league’s most dangerous offensive weapons.
According to league insiders, the Chiefs have now taken their pursuit to another level. Sources indicate that Kansas City has offered Walker a contract worth roughly $14–16 million per year, the highest offer currently on the table among teams interested in the star running back.
That aggressive offer has reportedly placed the Chiefs at the front of the race to sign the Super Bowl MVP as free agency approaches.
The move reflects Kansas City’s urgency to bounce back after a disappointing 2025 campaign that was derailed in part by injuries and a lack of offensive balance.
Adding Walker would immediately give the Chiefs a true bell-cow running back capable of taking pressure off Mahomes and opening up the playbook for head coach Andy Reid.
For Walker, the opportunity could be equally appealing. Joining a perennial contender with Mahomes under center would give the young running back a chance to build on his Super Bowl heroics and remain at the center of the NFL spotlight.
As the free agency window approaches, one thing is becoming clear. The Chiefs are not just interested in Kenneth Walker III.
