For the first time in his NFL career, Patrick Mahomes is watching the playoffs from home.
The three-time Super Bowl MVP suffered a devastating ACL and LCL tear in the closing minutes of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, abruptly ending his season. Even if Kansas City had advanced deeper into the postseason, Mahomes’ year was already over.
But while the injury marked a rare pause in his football life, it opened space for something else: family.
Rehab Mode — and Family Time
Mahomes immediately began his recovery, flying back to Texas the day after the injury and undergoing reconstructive surgery performed by Dallas Cowboys team physician Dr. Daniel Cooper. His goal is clear: return fully healthy for Week 1 of the 2026 season.
Though the ending wasn’t what he envisioned, the unexpected downtime has allowed Mahomes to be present at home with his wife Brittany Mahomes and their three children.
A Golden Moment for the Mahomes Family
In January, the family celebrated a joyful milestone: the first birthday of their youngest daughter, Golden Raye.
Golden, born January 12, 2024, joined older sister Sterling Skye (4) and brother Patrick “Bronze” Lavon (3). To mark the occasion, Patrick and Brittany hosted a colorful celebration filled with family, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
The couple shared a video montage from the party, writing:
“Celebrated our Golden girl with the best crew.”
The clips showed Golden wearing a “One” crown, enjoying cotton candy, smashing a pink strawberry cake—and most memorably, taking her first steps, which drew loud cheers from the entire family. Mahomes’ parents, Pat Mahomes Sr. and Randi Mahomes, were both in attendance.
Patrick was seen smiling and soaking it all in, even while wearing a knee brace during his rehab.
Encouraging Signs From Rehab
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid offered a positive update on Mahomes’ recovery.
“He’s doing great for just being three weeks out,” Reid told reporters.
“He’s been grinding. He trusts the process and the people around him.”
Mahomes is expected to spend most of his rehab time in Kansas City working closely with the Chiefs’ training staff.
Are the Mahomes Done Growing Their Family?
Brittany recently addressed the idea of baby No. 4 during an interview with WHOOP CEO Will Ahmed.
Her answer was honest:
“We’re done for a while. Three is all I need.”
Patrick echoed that sentiment previously, explaining that three children was always his goal—though he didn’t completely rule anything out down the road.
For now, the focus is simple: recovery, family, and soaking in moments that don’t show up on stat sheets.
More Than Football
Mahomes’ season may have ended early, but life hasn’t slowed down. Between rehab sessions and knee braces, he’s witnessing first steps, birthday candles, and everyday moments that often pass by during a typical NFL grind.
And for now, that might be the biggest win of all.
