The Kansas City Chiefs defensive line is losing another familiar face.
According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, veteran defensive lineman Derrick Nnadi is expected to sign with the Indianapolis Colts, as confirmed by his agency, Sports Trust Advisors.
The move marks the end of a long and successful chapter for Nnadi in Kansas City, where he spent eight seasons contributing to one of the NFL’s most dominant teams of the past decade.
A Trusted Veteran for Kansas City
Nnadi’s experience and familiarity with the Chiefs’ system made him a valuable piece of the defensive line over the years.
In fact, Kansas City valued his leadership so highly that the team brought him back before the start of the 2025 season through a trade with the New York Jets.
Head coach Andy Reid explained the decision shortly after the move, emphasizing the importance of experienced interior defensive linemen.
“He’s a good inside player, and you really can’t have enough of those guys,” Reid said.
“Derrick knows the system, so getting him back in there is a positive.”
Reid also noted that general manager Brett Veach consistently prioritizes strong depth along both the offensive and defensive lines.
“We’re always a little heavy on the O-line and D-line,” Reid added. “It’s just to make sure we’ve got those areas filled.”
2025 Season Production
During the 2025 NFL season, Nnadi appeared in 15 games and recorded:
-
16 total tackles
-
3 quarterback pressures
While his statistical production may not always grab headlines, Nnadi’s physical presence and ability to anchor the interior defensive line played an important role in Kansas City’s defensive rotations.
A Championship Legacy
Nnadi’s time in Kansas City will be remembered for more than just numbers.
Over his eight seasons with the franchise, he helped the Chiefs reach multiple Super Bowls and played a role in the team winning three championships during the National Football League’s modern dynasty era.
Now, the veteran lineman begins a new chapter in Indianapolis, where the Colts hope his experience and toughness can strengthen their defensive front.
For Chiefs fans, however, Nnadi will always remain part of a historic era in Kansas City football.
