The Kansas City Chiefs belong back in the Super Bowl for the NFL’s very soul. Although some fans grew tired of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs dominating the biggest stage year after year, their presence always brings a unique excitement to the game.
Whether you burned with disdain for the Chiefs or cheered with wild passion, you couldn’t help but watch every moment.
Because what Mahomes and the Chiefs have been able to do in this dynasty is truly remarkable and entertaining.
The Super Bowl showed the NFL needs the Chiefs
Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots highlighted the Chiefs’ impact over the last eight years. Super Bowls featuring the Chiefs have consistently been more exciting than what we saw Sunday.
You had the Patriots look absolutely abysmal on offense, unable to do anything, whereas when similar things happened to the Chiefs in Super Bowls, they at least had Mahomes making some insane plays. Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he was hitting receivers in the hands, and they were just getting dropped, crazy throw after crazy throw. Against the Philadelphia Eagles the second time, it didn’t look nearly as incredible, but there were still moments where Mahomes made a play, but his team couldn’t finish it. And even in those moments, you have entertainment. This last game really didn’t have that until near the end.
But let’s take out the two losses the Chiefs have had in the Super Bowl. What about the three wins? All of them were comeback wins by 10 points. One of those games, against the San Francisco 49ers, was a fourth-quarter comeback win: they trailed by 10 but won by 11. That’s how dominant and entertaining they have been.
Then you have another game in their second matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, where they walk it off in overtime. Another win against the Eagles, where they walk it off at the end of regulation. And, as we previously stated, all of those were fourth-quarter comebacks where Mahomes and Co. were down by ten points. Who else is doing that? Well, no one. Mahomes is the only quarterback in the history of the NFL to have a positive record (20-18) when trailing in the fourth quarter.
The NFL needs the Chiefs back, and they will be back. There are some moves they have to make this offseason, in both free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft, but they will be back.
